The authorities of the DPR have temporarily restricted the operation of the Viber messenger in the republic in order to protect the life and health of people. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Information.

“We are recording more and more cases of using this service not just for illegal purposes or for the purposes of information and psychological warfare, but also for the distribution of malicious programs, on the basis of which real strikes are inflicted on our people and settlements,” — The report says.

The ministry stressed that in recent times, civilian communications infrastructure has been increasingly used for military purposes due to the “connivance” of or “tacit assistance” service owners.

The authorities of the republic offered residents to switch to more trusted services that are not used as part of the military infrastructure.

The LPR government also temporarily blocked Viber in the republic. The decision is justified by “the protection of the information space of the Luhansk People's Republic.”

The Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Republic, Oleg Fetisov, noted that the use of the service for military purposes “cannot be ignored on our part.”
