President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Sergeev announced that he was withdrawing his candidacy from the election of a new head of the RAS. He called this decision forced.
The day before, Sergeyev’s plans to refuse to participate in the elections were reported by TASS and MK. citing sources.
Sergeev was one of three candidates approved by the government for the post of head of the academy: two other applicants— General Director of JSC “Research Institute of Molecular Electronics” Academician Gennady Krasnikov and Director of the FGBUN Institute of Thermal Physics named after A.I. S.S. Kutateladze of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Dmitry Markovich.
